Adi is a conscious effort to project NTR Jr as mass hero, as lot none of the youth heroes were able to grab. Based on Seema faction fight, something that bigger heros only attempt, it tried to balance both youth material and so called action. And surprisingly NTR Jr has effortlessly donned the role.
Adi’s mother and father get killed by a faction leader in a land dispute when he was eight year old. The boy Adi (NTR Jr) is saved by a servant Erranna (Chalapathi Rao) who becomes his godfather later. After a gap of 12 years Adi gets introduced in a college as a student where he is a kind of a hero who is fun loving but doesn’t like ragging girls in the name of teasing and stands against the injustice encountered in day to day life. He meets Nandini (Keerthi Chawla) in the college. Unlike the so-called youth films it’s not love at first sight but they fall in love with each other after some time. Then the twist comes that she is none other than the daughter of Nagireddy (Rajan) who killed Adi’s parents. Adi doesn’t like to mix his love and revenge and decides to go to the village and take up the challenge. And he doesn’t go with false identity. How Adi wins his love and takes revenge is a gripping action cum drama.
Despite having no big story line the film is gripping mainly due to the treatment of the film. Being a first timer Vinayak did a worth-mentioning if not a superb job. Having worked with a prodigy like Ramgopal Varma he majorly followed the school in the action and chase scenes. One particular chase scene in which Chalapathi Rao was killed reminds Siva’s famous chase. However with too much of focus on action and fights the climax becomes a bit unnatural and dragging too.
NTR Jr fitted in the role with a lot of ease, something unusual at his age. He did a good job and looking better with shedding a lot of fat from the body. Keerthi Chawla was nothing but a glamorous addition who was used only for song numbers.
Meanwhile there was striking effort in the film to remind the audience of late NTR and Babai Balakrishna in conceiving some scenes and dialogues.
Paruchuri Brothers have done some good work. Music is not too catchy but for one or two numbers. If the music were good the film would have been a better one. On the whole the film has all the masala a common filmgoer looks for and typical NTR Jr fan strives for.
